Crisis exercise simulates flood in Corsica

On Wednesday, the Bastia Urban Community, along with the cities of Bastia and Ville di Pietrabugno, and the Haute-Corse SIS participated in a crisis management exercise simulating a flood. The scenario included fake phone calls, fake social media posts, and simulated victims to test the response of emergency services and local authorities.

Exercise involved sixty participants

Approximately sixty people took part in the exercise, focusing on managing a flooding situation in the two communes, particularly in the Fango district of Bastia. The goal was to identify both effective responses and areas needing improvement in emergency preparedness.

Italian delegation observed remotely

The exercise was conducted under the remote supervision of an Italian delegation as part of an INTERREG seminar focused on natural risks. This allowed for the exchange of experiences and best practices between French and Italian authorities dealing with similar challenges.

Simulation used a home simulator

The Haute-Corse SIS used its home simulator, called Serious Game, to recreate the scenario. This tool provided a realistic representation of the affected areas, including streets, topography, and surrounding buildings, helping participants better understand the situation they were responding to.

Officials reflect on the exercise

Louis Pozzo di Borgo, president of the Bastia Urban Community, and Commander Pierre Ferrandini from the Haute-Corse SIS shared their insights on the exercise, emphasizing its importance in improving crisis management and coordination among different agencies.
