A Land Rover Series III sitting on the pavement looks like a classic 4x4 built for off-road adventures. However, this particular vehicle has a surprising twist. According to Carscoops, the car, nicknamed Slamd-Rover, is being sold on eBay for 15,000 GBP (approximately 17,700 EUR). It features a Series III body but has been modified with an extremely low ground clearance, resting on a four-way air suspension that can be controlled remotely. At its lowest setting, the body nearly touches the ground, making it unable to clear a standard curb.
The vehicle's body is painted in matte green, with a beige roof from a rare Safari model, which has also been shortened. Almost all the windows have been removed, except for the two-part windshield and small roof windows. The chassis has been shortened, and the car rolls on 17-inch Porsche wheels, with a matching spare wheel fixed on the hood.
Under the green roof lies a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle that has been dramatically transformed. The original Beetle, registered in the United Kingdom as a 1968 model, served as the base for the project. The current owner acquired the vehicle in 2020 when it was not yet completed and had it finished by British workshops Dropworks Customs and Lowdown Transporters. Only a few original Beetle parts remain, as the modifications were extensive.
The interior is designed with minimalism in mind, featuring a custom bench, a wooden steering wheel, three round dials, and a gear lever mounted very high. The rear space, typically used for loading in a Land Rover, is occupied by the engine block—a 1.6-liter flat-four engine, air-cooled, taken from a VW Type 2 Bus. This engine is equipped with two carburetors, 3D-printed intake manifolds, and a specific exhaust system with dual outlets.
The Slamd-Rover is being offered for sale on eBay with the option of delivery anywhere in the United Kingdom, and international shipping is available for an additional fee. The seller describes it as "the perfect vehicle to annoy Land Rover purists," noting that the reaction of passers-by when they see it driving is "hilarious."
