Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that midfielder Moises Caicedo will remain out for Saturday’s Premier League match against newly-promoted Hull City. Caicedo initially missed the opening game of the season against Fulham but was brought on as a substitute in the following match against Brighton. However, he only lasted 14 minutes before being substituted due to a recurrence of an injury. The 24-year-old Ecuadorian has since missed games against Arsenal and Leeds, and Alonso believes it is too soon to reintroduce him into the squad. “We’ll see for Brentford,” Alonso said during his pre-match press conference. “We’re not at a moment to take risks with him. Not yet; we are not yet.” The Spaniard emphasized that the team’s priority is to ensure Caicedo is fully fit before returning him to action, rather than risking further injury. In addition to Caicedo, Alonso confirmed that Marco Palestra, Jordan Henderson, and Emmanuel Emegha will also be unavailable for Saturday’s match. All three players have yet to make a competitive appearance for Chelsea this season. However, the manager suggested that Henderson and Emegha could be available for next week’s game against Brentford. “Not tomorrow,” Alonso said. “We hope they can be for Brentford, but we’ll see.” Despite these absences, Chelsea have started the season strongly under Alonso, scoring 15 goals in their first five matches across all competitions. However, the upcoming match against Hull City could be a challenging one. The newly-promoted team has yet to concede a goal in their first three league games of the season, making them a formidable opponent for the west London side.
