Public support for diverse vehicle technologies

A recent study in Spain, involving over 1,500 citizens and 300 professionals in the automotive sector, shows that 74 percent of Spaniards believe helping people buy new vehicles—regardless of their power source—would help move the country toward cleaner energy. More than 65 percent think all available technologies should be used to speed up replacing older vehicles.

Preference for technological neutrality

Over 57 percent of respondents said they would consider switching vehicles if the decision was based on technological neutrality, meaning no single type of vehicle is favored. This suggests a preference for a balanced approach that includes various technologies rather than focusing only on fully electric vehicles.

Older vehicles contribute to pollution

The study highlights that Spain has 31.7 million vehicles, and more than six out of ten are over ten years old. Nearly a third of the fleet consists of vehicles over twenty years old, which can emit up to ten times more pollutants than modern models.

Renewable fuels gain public backing

Renewable fuels are widely supported, with 71 percent of individuals and 73 percent of professionals in favor. Seven out of ten surveyed believe these fuels can complement the shift to electric vehicles. However, there is a strong emphasis on ensuring these fuels have clear certification and traceability to confirm their renewable origin.

Dealers boost electric mobility efforts

The Spanish federation of auto dealers has signed a deal with Moeve, a major energy company, to expand their collaboration. This agreement includes initiatives to improve energy efficiency, promote electric mobility, and provide value to both dealers and customers throughout the vehicle ownership process.

Focus on customer needs and solutions

The partnership emphasizes understanding the specific needs of dealers in energy efficiency and mobility. Montse Martínez Campos, a senior official at Faconauto, said the collaboration will address these needs step by step, ensuring practical solutions are developed for each dealer network.

European perspective on electric vehicle adoption

From the viewpoint of French automotive professionals, the Spanish approach shows that the shift to electric vehicles is not just about government mandates but involves cooperation with energy companies, clear charging options, active distribution networks, and informed support for consumers.
