Demonstration planned for October 19

The Solidarity Between Women on the Streets collective is organizing a demonstration on Monday, October 19, in front of the Lyon Metropolitan area to protest the imminent eviction of 280 women and children currently housed at Place de Milan in the 3rd arrondissement.

Residents housed since March

The 280 women and children have been living in a building at Place de Milan since March, but concerns are growing about their future after a court ordered the building’s evacuation at the end of August.

Eviction timeline unclear

Although the Lyon Metropolitan area, which owns the building, filed a lawsuit leading to the court order, no eviction has occurred yet. Law enforcement visited the site this Thursday to conduct a census, suggesting an eviction "as early as next week," according to the collective.

No housing solution offered

The collective warns that no alternative housing has been proposed for the occupants, leaving them in a situation they describe as "a camp awaiting the residents and their families."

Protests have increased

For several weeks, demonstrations have taken place in front of both the City Hall and the Lyon Metropolitan area to denounce what they call an "shameful" eviction.

New mobilization planned

A new demonstration is set for Monday, October 19, starting at 4 p.m. in front of the Lyon Metropolitan area. The collective urges that "while youth is rising up for its educational and living conditions, let us not allow women and children to return to the streets in indifference."
