Eviction of a family in Lyon sparks protest

A family was evicted from a cabin in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon, prompting Place publique Rhône, a political movement, to demand an end to evictions without permanent housing solutions. The group criticized the eviction, which took place on October 21, of a family living in a makeshift shelter near the Descartes site of the École Normale Supérieure (ENS).

No permanent housing offered

According to Place publique Rhône, the family was not provided with a permanent housing alternative before their eviction. The political movement described the situation as unacceptable and called for an immediate halt to such practices.

Concerns over 280 women and children

The movement also expressed concern for 280 women and children living in a building with 40 apartments on Place de Milan, near Part-Dieu. The building is owned by the Métropole, which has started an eviction process against the occupants.

Eviction appeal not suspensive

The occupants of the Place de Milan building have filed an appeal against the eviction, but it is not suspensive, meaning the eviction can proceed while the appeal is being considered. A hearing to review the case is scheduled for December 14.

Call to suspend all evictions

Place publique Rhône is requesting the Métropole to stop all eviction procedures until permanent housing solutions are provided for those affected. The movement argues that evictions should not occur without ensuring that displaced individuals have a stable place to live.
