Festival showcases European genre films

The Lund Fantastic Film Festival, in its 32nd edition, will run from 28 October to 4 November in Lund, southern Sweden, focusing on European genre cinema and including fictional films, animated works, and a Japanese retrospective.

Opening film and competition highlights

The festival opens with 4 Tigers, a Thai action-fantasy epic by Kongkiat Komesiri, and features European films in its Méliès d'Argent competition, including Spanish animation, Polish folklore horror, and French and German stories.

European and international entries

European films in the competition range from Buffet Libre by Zoe Berriatúa and Decorado by Alberto Vázquez to Serbian, Irish, and French productions. Beyond Europe, entries include Blood Shine and Phreaker, with Japanese films closing the festival and featuring a TOEI Company retrospective.

Animation and short films

Animation is a major focus, with 28 films from 17 countries, including two features and 26 short films. The short-film competition leads to the Méliès d'Or, which honors outstanding European fantastic cinema.

Swedish film spotlight

Swedish genre filmmaking is highlighted in Finn Fantastic, a competition for the best Swedish short film, with eight entries and opportunities for direct audience interaction with local filmmakers.

Professional forum returns

The festival includes Fantastic Forum, an industry event on 1 and 2 November, addressing topics like low-budget horror, international sales, and animation. British screenwriter Amanda Graham and LevelK’s Niklas Teng will lead sessions, alongside showcases of local Swedish animation projects.
