Recent developments suggest that Henri Giscard d'Estaing and Stéphane Maquaire have been involved in significant business changes at Club Med, a well-known French company that operates all-inclusive holiday resorts. Giscard d'Estaing, a former president of Club Med, has recently become a topic of discussion again after turning down the presidency of the Organizing Committee for the 2030 Alpine Winter Olympics and Paralympics. He had been part of the Chinese shareholder group, Fosun, for nearly two years, serving as deputy finance director and acting as a liaison between Fosun and French institutional and political figures. According to reports from Lettre, Stéphane Maquaire, who will become deputy general manager of Club Med and join the executive committee starting October 8, 2026, has been assigned a mentor by Fosun to help him manage the French group. The mentor is Philippe Heim. In an internal note, it was stated that Philippe Heim will be responsible for an efficiency improvement project and will oversee various departments, including Finance, Legal Affairs, Public Affairs, and Communications. Despite this significant management role, he will report directly to Stéphane Maquaire. Philippe Heim, who has held key positions at Société Générale and La Banque Postale and more recently as co-finance director of Fosun International, will leave his position at Fosun and the board of directors of Club Med. The brand's CEO commented that Philippe will bring energy, perspective, and the ability to challenge the team as they enter a new stage. Edmund Choi, the finance director of Club Med, will report directly to the new leader and support financial planning, performance management, cash management, procurement, and financial resilience. Saliha Abdou, who leads the legal department, will fall under the responsibility of Philippe Heim, as will Cécile Trunet-Favre, director of communications and influence, but only for public affairs. This reorganization is intended to allow Andrew Xu to focus exclusively on growth and investment. The CEO has decided to entrust the definition of the strategy to the firm Alvarez & Marsal, which provides international consulting services combining operational and financial expertise, execution capability, and commitment. The firm will be responsible for increasing both the volume of activity and the margins of Club Med. Stéphane Maquaire has a tight agenda, including multiplying the number of vacation villages to reach a target of 100 addresses by 2035, compared to about 60 currently. According to the newspaper Les Échos, Maquaire has been adopted by the GO, although he has no prior experience in tourism and comes from the retail sector. He must also prepare for the return of the trident brand to the stock market, which would move away from Paris to Hong Kong.
