BYD unveils luxury sedan Altior

A new luxury sedan named Altior has been partially revealed by Chinese automaker BYD. The model is designed to compete with European luxury brands like Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Maybach, signaling the company’s push into the high-end automotive market.

BYD’s brand strategy

BYD’s main brand targets the general market, while Denza focuses on the premium segment and Yangwang, its luxury division, targets the ultra-high-end market. Yangwang will add the Altior to its lineup, with a different name, Dingyao, reserved for the Chinese market.

Design and features of Altior

The Altior is expected to be about 5.50 meters long, with a silhouette resembling luxury limousines from Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The first image shows distinctive features like a unique light signature and door handles that suggest rear doors with opposing opening mechanisms.

Electric powertrain and battery technology

The Altior will be fully electric and may feature a semiconductor battery, a technology that Stella Li, vice president of BYD, confirmed will be available in 2027. This battery technology is expected to be used exclusively for this model to avoid production limitations.

Official unveiling in Dubai

Yangwang plans to officially unveil the Altior on November 5 in Dubai, a major luxury market. While the company is not yet established in Europe, its expansion into international markets is still underway.
