BYD updates its Qin Plus DM-i model

BYD has refreshed its Qin Plus DM-i, a plug-in hybrid sedan, with a price under 14,000 euros. The model is now available at highly competitive prices and is described as an exceptional traveler. While BYD is set to unveil its new Yangwang Altior, a luxury electric large sedan, it is also updating one of its least expensive models: the Qin Plus DM-i.

Design and dimensions of the sedan

The sedan is 4.84 meters long and has a conventional appearance, designed to be sold in large quantities. It highlights an almost unbeatable price/performance ratio, even in China where manufacturers are striving to bring prices down.

Interior features and improvements

Inside, the layout is conventional, but the equipment includes essentials, with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a central screen that is either 10.1 or 12.8 inches depending on the version. The brand highlights an improved perceived quality compared to the previous generation, thanks to softer-to-the-touch materials and optional equipment such as a panoramic sunroof.

Powertrain and battery specifications

The Qin Plus DM-i is equipped with a single powertrain, composed of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 100 horsepower and an electric motor producing 163 horsepower. It can be associated with two LFP batteries of 16.2 and 24.3 kWh according to the versions. The first offers up to 140 kilometers of range in electric mode, compared to 220 for the second. These values are understood in the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is more optimistic.

Performance and pricing details

The combined range with the tank and battery full is 2,290 kilometers (in CLTC cycle) without stopping. The brand announces consumption of 2.58 liters per 100 km, with the battery discharged. The charge from 30 to 80% takes 20 minutes.

Availability and pricing in China

BYD lists its Qin Plus DM-i starting at 79,900 yuan, approximately 10,700 euros at the current exchange rate. The two higher versions are priced at 90,900 and 100,900 yuan, or about 12,200 and 13,500 euros. The manufacturer offers special offers at launch, allowing prices to be brought down further. However, the model is only marketed on the domestic market. BYD has not mentioned any exports to other markets, so it should not be rolling on roads outside of China.
