A Chinese manufacturer has introduced a new hybrid battery system and a next-generation energy storage solution for the European market. The JAPlanet Fusion is a combined solar and storage system that uses direct current (DC) coupling, integrating a 125KVA inverter with 10 maximum power point tracking (MPPT) functions, a 261kWh storage capacity, and backup power capabilities. This design combines multiple components into a single unit, which reduces the number of connections and wiring needed. This simplifies installation and reduces the risk of compatibility issues that can occur when using equipment from different suppliers. The system’s modular design allows up to 10 units to be connected together for use in grid-connected applications, or up to six units for off-grid use, making it adaptable to various project needs. According to the manufacturer, JA, the JAPlanet Fusion is especially well-suited for repowering existing solar installations. It can handle up to 250 kWc of photovoltaic input, allowing additional solar capacity to be added on the DC side. This includes support for up to 20 solar strings and 10 MPPTs, while keeping the AC output within the grid's allowed limits. Benefits for users include maximizing the value of existing solar infrastructure and grid connections by adding energy storage and improving system reliability. It also streamlines communication with local electricity network operators, reducing the complexity and delays that often come with expanding grid capacity. For backup power, the system features a static transfer switch (STS) that detects a grid outage and switches to off-grid operation within 10 milliseconds, ensuring continuous power for essential loads. Additional safety features include liquid cooling, continuous temperature, smoke, and gas monitoring, as well as an integrated fire suppression system and ventilation that meets the NFPA 69 standard. The JAPlanet Fusion has also been tested and validated by UL 9540A, a standard for battery safety. In addition to the JAPlanet Fusion, the company has launched the JAPlanet 2.0, a new AC-coupled energy storage system designed for commercial and industrial use. This system offers improved efficiency, advanced thermal management, and better maintenance capabilities. It provides a round-trip efficiency of over 90% and can operate without degradation at ambient temperatures up to 50 °C. Its thermal management system uses 20% less auxiliary power than traditional systems, enhancing efficiency and enabling reliable operation in a wide range of environmental conditions. The JAPlanet 2.0 also features advanced safety measures, including cell-level monitoring and UL 9540A certification for the entire battery system. It comes with JANebula, an integrated energy management system that supports various applications such as managing time-of-use electricity rates, reducing peak power demand, and increasing solar self-consumption, all in line with EU regulations on safety and reliability. Both the JAPlanet Fusion and JAPlanet 2.0 are now available for pre-order in Europe, with the first shipments of JAPlanet Fusion expected by the end of the year.
