Lire et faire lire invites people 50+ to volunteer as readers for children, sharing the joy of books across generations.
French association promotes shared reading
Since 1999, Lire et faire lire has promoted the idea that the pleasure of books is shared. The national association invites people aged 50 and older to become volunteer readers for children aged 0 to 12.Volunteers read to children without replacing teachers
Their mission is to bring children's literature to life through reading aloud and create encounters between generations. The principle is not to give a lesson. Volunteers do not replace teachers or professionals in early childhood care.Reading sessions are small and flexible
They offer a reading-leisure time to small groups of willing children. The association's charter provides for groups of two to six participants. Around a story, an illustrated album, or another children's work, each person can thus discover books at their own pace.Volunteers share their love for reading
For volunteers, it is also an opportunity to share a personal taste without having to play the expert: loving to read and wanting to share this passion are the starting points of the approach.Reading sessions happen in various places
The interventions take place in schools, nurseries, libraries, leisure centers, and other collective structures. They are organized with the welcoming teams and the departmental coordinations of Lire et faire lire, who support the people involved.Volunteers are needed for the program
You are 50 years old or older and want to introduce children to the pleasure of stories? The association is looking for new volunteers. To register, go to this address. A departmental coordination will then contact you.
