F2 confirms 2027-2029 team list

The F2 has officially announced the list of eleven teams selected for the 2027 to 2029 seasons. Ten teams currently participating will retain their positions, while the new team LN4 Fusion will make its debut appearance.

Grid structure remains unchanged

Each of the eleven teams will field two single-seaters, maintaining the championship's usual format. This ensures a grid of 22 single-seaters for the next three years.

LN4 Fusion joins historic teams

LN4 Fusion is a new team created by Lando Norris with support from former PREMA Racing members. It will compete under an Italian license and join historic teams like ART Grand Prix, Prema Racing, DAMS, and Campos Racing.

Selected teams include continuity and new faces

The eleven selected teams are ART Grand Prix, Campos Racing, DAMS, Hitech, Invicta Racing, LN4 Fusion, MP Motorsport, Prema Racing, Rodin Motorsport, Trident, and Van Amersfoort Racing. Ten of these teams were already present in 2026.

F2 director praises interest and team commitment

Bruno Michel, the general director of Formula 2, expressed satisfaction with the interest generated by the selection process. He highlighted the championship's attractiveness and the commitment of existing teams in training future Formula 1 drivers.

International distribution of licenses

The distribution of licenses reflects the competition’s international nature. Teams will represent various countries, with France, Spain, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, and New Zealand each having teams under their respective licenses.

Formula 2's role in driver development

Since its creation in 2017 to replace the GP2, Formula 2 has occupied a central place in the FIA's pyramid of single-seater categories. It provides young drivers with experience in circuits, technical requirements, and the Formula 1 environment.

Success of former F2 drivers in Formula 1

Several drivers currently competing in Formula 1, including Charles Leclerc, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri, have passed through Formula 2. Others, like Gabriel Bortoleto and Kimi Antonelli, continue to progress toward the top category.

Lando Norris's F1 success highlights F2's importance

In 2025, Lando Norris became the first former Formula 2 driver to win the Formula 1 World Drivers' Championship. This success underscores the importance of Formula 2 in preparing the next generation of drivers for the elite of motorsport.
