Since June 2026, the French Ministry of National Education, working with Pix, has launched a new educational program called Pix+ Édu that focuses on artificial intelligence in education. Designed for teachers and educational advisors known as CPE, the initiative was introduced by Maxime Barilleau from the Direction du numérique pour l’éducation during an interview with Ludomag. The program aims to give educators a shared understanding of AI, its applications, and its impact on their professional roles. Artificial intelligence is increasingly integrated into digital tools and educational practices. To help educators adapt, Pix+ Édu has added a specific pathway dedicated to AI in education since June 2026. This pathway helps teachers and CPE understand what AI is, how it works, and how it might change or challenge their daily tasks in the classroom. The program goes beyond just technical knowledge of AI. It includes modules that guide staff in applying AI responsibly in schools, focusing on principles like transparency, efficiency, educational value, and data protection. The goal is to move beyond simple tool use and encourage thoughtful, informed decisions about AI integration in education. This initiative is part of a broader plan outlined in the reference framework for digital skills in education (CRCN-Édu), published in July 2026. This framework now includes AI-related skills for teachers and CPE, such as understanding AI tools, thinking critically about them, and helping students use AI wisely. The Pix+ Édu pathway is available to all teachers and CPE through a platform called Magistère, particularly via the éduscol website, which focuses on digital skill development. The demand for this training is significant: according to Maxime Barilleau, tens of thousands of teachers have already enrolled in the program since its launch. Additionally, since the 2025-2026 school year, all Pix+ Édu pathways allow participants to earn a certificate of professional digital skills if they achieve at least 50% success in the program. This includes the AI-specific pathway, giving educators a formal recognition of their digital competencies. The program is also launched at a time when teachers are expected to help students develop digital skills, which are now closely tied to AI. In January 2026, the French Ministry of National Education and Pix expanded AI-focused pathways for students, emphasizing the need for teachers to understand AI tools thoroughly. However, the Pix+ Édu AI pathway is not meant to be a complete training program on its own. Instead, it serves as a foundational step, providing shared knowledge and principles that can support further learning and development in AI education.
