Final Fantasy VII Revelation details revealed

Naoki Hamaguchi, the Game Director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, stated that the game will conclude the story established in the trilogy and expand beyond it. The game is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027, more than 30 years after the original Final Fantasy VII on PlayStation 1, and has been in development for over ten years.

New features and story elements

During a private press conference, Hamaguchi previewed a new version of Tifa's piano mini-game and announced that players will be able to return to Midgar and explore the city Mako more deeply than ever before. The game will include new scripted elements in Wutai, focusing on its relationship with the corporation Shinra, and will reference characters from the Final Fantasy VII Compilation and its spin-offs.

Enhancing the original story

Hamaguchi noted that while it is difficult to quantify the fidelity to the original game, the trilogy aims to surpass Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in deepening the original work. The game will include elements from Ever Crisis, a mobile game linked to the remake trilogy, and there is a possibility that the story of the First Soldiers will be integrated into the Final Fantasy VII compilation through Revelation or its DLCs.

Final battle and post-launch content

Regarding the final battle, Hamaguchi stated that it is uncertain who the final boss will be, though it will be a powerful and memorable confrontation. The final battle of Revelation will be the last one chronologically, but there will be DLCs following the release of the base game, which will include side stories such as the conflictive relationship between Vincent and Sephiroth.

Teamwork and future plans

The development of the trilogy has taught Hamaguchi the importance of a cohesive, talented team and the collective effort required to create such large-scale games. While there are no certainties about the future of the Final Fantasy VII franchise after the trilogy, Hamaguchi expressed a willingness to continue developing the franchise if the opportunity arises.

Open-world scale and gameplay flexibility

Final Fantasy VII Revelation aims to be among the best open-world games by offering a world the size of an entire planet for exploration. The game will include narrative depth in its mini-games, such as Tifa's piano mini-game and Queen's Blood, which will allow players to learn more about the characters' backgrounds. The game will also include an option to skip mini-games, allowing players to access the hidden scenarios without completing the gameplay challenges.
