Deezer introduces AI song filter

Deezer is preparing to allow users to hide songs entirely generated by artificial intelligence from search results. The French music platform announced this feature on October 13, 2026, and plans to roll it out globally before the year ends.

AI tracks already excluded from recommendations

Deezer has already excluded AI-generated tracks from its algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. These tracks are also labeled, but they still appear in search results unless users use the new filtering option.

User demand for AI filtering is clear

Deezer's general manager, Alexis Lanternier, noted a "clear demand" from users to filter AI-generated music. However, identifying such tracks remains a challenge. A 2025 study found that 97% of participants could not correctly identify AI-generated tracks, despite 80% wanting them clearly marked.

AI detection system has limitations

Deezer's AI detection system can recognize tracks from tools like Suno, Udio, or Riffusion, but it requires examples of their output. The company is developing a system that does not depend on such examples to identify AI-generated music.

Deezer uses AI for its own services

Deezer itself uses AI, notably in its playlist generator, which creates playlists based on a single phrase. The platform also offers its AI detection technology to others through licensing agreements.

High volume of AI-generated tracks

Deezer receives nearly 90,000 AI-generated tracks daily, more than half of the new tracks uploaded on the busiest days. Since early 2025, the platform claims to have identified and excluded over 42 million AI-generated tracks from its recommendations and playlists.

Low listening figures for AI tracks

Despite the high volume, AI-generated tracks account for only 1 to 3% of total listens. Deezer says up to 85% of listens to these tracks in 2025 were fraudulent, involving automated accounts playing songs repeatedly to claim streaming revenue.

Concerns over revenue impact on creators

Authors' societies are worried about AI-generated music's impact on creators' earnings. A 2025 study suggests that 24% of creators' music revenues could be at risk by 2028, or 4 billion euros annually, under the current regulatory framework.

Spotify and Apple Music also address AI content

Spotify introduced an "AI Persona" badge for profiles with AI-generated identities, excluding such tracks from recommendations unless users follow the artist or save the music. Apple Music plans a "Made With AI" label, but it does not allow users to hide these tracks in search results.

Deezer aims to offer more control

Deezer aims to differentiate itself by offering users the ability to hide AI-generated tracks in search results. The platform has not provided a more specific release date than "before the end of 2026" for this feature.
