From August 24 to September 5, 2027, France and the region of Haute-Savoie will host more than 15,000 athletes for the second edition of the UCI Super World Championships of Cycling. The weekend that has just ended marked a significant milestone for the J-365 countdown, which began on January 1, 2027, to mark the one-year anniversary of the event. The celebration took place in Sallanches, a town that will be central to the road races in 2027. The weather was sunny, and the atmosphere was full of energy and excitement, suggesting that the upcoming event will be a memorable experience. The weekend featured a variety of activities, including demonstrations, appearances by champions, and cyclosportive events—long-distance cycling events open to the public. As an ambassador for the event, Bernard Hinault, a legendary cyclist, participated in a parade along part of the road race course. The public could also ride on connected bicycles in place Charles Albert, helping to reach a symbolic total distance of 2027 kilometers. This five-hour team effort aimed to highlight the significance of the year 2027. Demonstrations were a highlight of Saturday’s events, with the Tissot countdown officially launched in the presence of local figures and sports personalities, including Olympic champion Julie Bresset (mountain bike), biathlon legend Martin Fourcade, alpine skiing medalist Alexis Pinturault, and Olympic alpine skiing champion Emily Harrop. Michel Callot, president of the organizing committee, expressed the enthusiasm felt across the region: « This day allowed us to measure how strong the anticipation is and how present the enthusiasm is on the territory. This momentum will be precious for all the teams mobilizing every day to make 2027 an event worthy of this exceptional meeting and to offer all cycling enthusiasts an unforgettable experience. » Enrico Della Casa, vice-president of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), was also on site to observe the excitement: « We are happy to officially launch the countdown to this exceptional event. With 20 distinct UCI World Championships gathered on the same territory, this edition will be the largest cycling and para-cycling event ever organized, and for nearly two weeks, our sport will shine more than ever, supported by a Haute-Savoie up to the challenge of this historic event. » On Sunday, cycling was celebrated again with the first edition of the Haute Savoie Mont-Blanc Classic – Bernard Hinault Experience cyclosportive. More than 1,200 cyclists participated in routes of 105 or 165 kilometers. This event, designed as a legacy of the 2027 World Championships, included the famous Côte de Domancy, a climb that will be part of the professional race in a year. Martial Saddier, president of the Haute Savoie Departmental Council, remarked: « The route of this cyclosportive reminds us how much our territory is an incredible sports ground for cycling enthusiasts. This event projects us a little more toward the deadline of the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships in Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc. And we are looking forward to welcoming the best riders and enthusiasts from all over the world! »
