TAP resumes flights to Caracas

TAP Air Portugal has restarted its direct flights between Lisbon and Caracas, Venezuela, after a suspension caused by damage from earthquakes at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía. The airline now offers two weekly flights to the Venezuelan capital, serving a market closely tied to the Portuguese community in the country.

Flight schedules and ticket prices

Flights operate on Tuesdays and Sundays with specific departure and arrival times. TAP offers round-trip tickets starting at 669 euros, including all taxes, available through its website and travel agencies. The return flights to Lisbon are scheduled for the following day, with varying arrival times depending on the day of travel.

Alternative routes during suspension

During the suspension of flights to Caracas, TAP redirected its service to Valencia’s Arturo Michelena International Airport, maintaining a connection with Portugal. The resumption of flights to Caracas restores TAP’s usual destination, rather than establishing a new presence in Venezuela.

Other airlines resuming services

Other airlines are also resuming or expanding their services to Caracas. Air Europa and Plus Ultra have returned to Maiquetía, with Plus Ultra offering routes from Madrid, Tenerife-Nord, and Istanbul. Madrid remains the primary European hub for flights to Venezuela, with multiple airlines operating services to the Spanish capital.

Regional airline activity increases

Regional carriers are also increasing their presence in Venezuela. Avianca has boosted its service to Bogotá, GOL has added flights between Caracas and São Paulo, and Wingo has resumed flights to Maiquetía. Wingo continues to operate flights to Valencia as well, used during the airport’s closure.

Arajet seeks entry into Venezuelan market

Arajet, a Dominican airline, is seeking to enter the Venezuelan market with six new routes connecting Santo Domingo and Punta Cana to Caracas, Valencia, and Maracaibo. However, its entry has been delayed multiple times, primarily due to damage to Maiquetía airport, and no new operating dates have been confirmed.
