Long-term job seeker registrations rise in Seine-et-Marne

In Seine-et-Marne, 54,110 people were registered with France Travail for at least one year during the third quarter of 2026, representing a 10.3 percent increase compared to the same period one year earlier. This growth significantly exceeds the increase in the total number of job seekers. The department now has 120,830 people in categories A, B, and C.

Long-term registrations drive the increase

The departmental data released on October 29 by the regional employment agency (Drieets) show that long-term registrations account for most of the annual increase. In one year, the number of people registered for at least twelve months increased from 49,060 to 54,110, a total of 5,050 additional people. During the same period, the total number of people in categories A, B, and C increased by 5,590.

Nearly half of job seekers are registered long-term

Nearly 45 percent of job seekers registered for at least one year. The share of job seekers registered for at least one year reached 44.8 percent, compared to 42.6 percent during the third quarter of 2025. This duration corresponds to a continuous presence in categories A, B, and C: any exit from these categories, even brief, resets the counter in this statistic.

Longest registration periods show growth

The increase also affects the longest registration periods. The department records 26,500 people registered for one to less than two years, 11,580 for two to less than three years, and 16,030 for three years or more. The group of job seekers registered for two to less than three years increased by 14.9 percent over one year, more than the other age groups.

Seine-et-Marne lags slightly behind Île-de-France

At the Île-de-France level, the proportion of job seekers registered for at least one year stands at 45.4 percent. Seine-et-Marne remains slightly below this average, but its annual increase of 10.3 percent for long-term registrations is higher than the regional increase of 9.8 percent. The regional figures are included in the joint Drieets-Dares-France Travail publication.

Younger job seekers see the biggest increase

A marked increase among those aged 25-49. The total number of people registered in categories A, B, and C increased by 4.9 percent over one year in Seine-et-Marne, and by 1 percent compared to the previous quarter. Among the 120,830 registered individuals, 73,730 are not engaged in any professional activity and fall into category A. The remaining 47,100 have worked during the period considered, with reduced activity in category B or C.

Age groups show varied trends

Those aged 25-49 constitute the largest group: 74,880 registered individuals, representing a 6.5 percent increase over one year. Those under 25 are 18,140, with a 5.2 percent increase. For people aged 50 or older, the number is almost stable, at 27,810, an increase of 0.4 percent compared to one year ago. These changes describe different situations based on age, but do not by themselves indicate the causes of difficulties in returning to employment.

Category A sees a moderate rise

Category A, which includes job seekers without employment who are required to look for work, increased by 4.3 percent over one year. This total of 73,730 people is also cited by the regional newspaper L’Écho Île-de-France in its report on October 29.

Registration figures differ from unemployment rates

These figures are quarterly averages of administrative registrations, adjusted for seasonal variations and working days. They do not correspond to the unemployment rate measured by Insee. The latest available local unemployment rate for Seine-et-Marne is 7.9 percent during the second quarter of 2026, according to the Île-de-France economic situation dashboard.

New registration categories added in 2025

Since January 2025, the registration rules with France Travail have evolved, particularly for RSA beneficiaries and young people supported by local employment agencies. Two distinct categories have been created: F for people on a social pathway and G for those waiting for orientation. In Seine-et-Marne, they account for respectively 8,800 and 5,915 registered individuals during the third quarter, in raw data, and are not included in the 120,830 people in categories A, B, and C.

Next update expected in January 2027

The next departmental publication, covering the fourth quarter of 2026, is scheduled for January 28, 2027. It will allow an assessment of whether the increase in long-term registrations observed over the past year continues.
