Job seekers in Seine-Saint-Denis

In Seine-Saint-Denis, 87,100 people have been registered with France Travail as job seekers for at least one year. This group makes up 46.5% of those in categories A, B, and C, which include individuals actively seeking work or required to look for it.

Rising numbers over time

The number of long-term registered job seekers in the department has grown by 10.5% over the past year. This increase is part of the latest report from Drieets, Dares, and France Travail, which covers the third quarter of 2026 and adjusts for seasonal and calendar variations.

Regional context and growth

Across Île-de-France, 1,103,840 people are registered with France Travail in these categories, showing a 1.3% quarterly increase. In Seine-Saint-Denis alone, the number of registered individuals rose by 1.7%, adding 3,070 people to the total of 187,200.

Breakdown of categories

Of the 187,200 registered individuals in Seine-Saint-Denis, 121,970 are in category A, meaning they have not worked during the reference period. This group has grown by 2.2%, or 2,630 people, while the remaining 65,220 are in categories B and C, which include those with reduced or intermittent work activity.

Longer registration durations

The number of people registered for at least twelve months has increased from 78,800 in 2025 to 87,100 in 2026. Meanwhile, those registered for one to two years rose by 12.7%, and those registered for two to three years increased by 12.2%. Registrations lasting three years or more grew by 6.5%.

Age-related trends

The report highlights that younger job seekers under 25 have seen a 5.1% annual increase, while those aged 50 and older have remained nearly stable, with a slight 0.1% decline. However, the data does not break down these trends by specific communes in the department.

New registration categories

Since January 2025, the full employment law has led to more automatic registrations with France Travail, especially for people receiving RSA or being followed by local employment agencies. Two new categories have also been added: 14,950 in social pathways (F) and 32,164 awaiting orientation (G).

Limitations of the data

The Drieets report notes that registration statistics differ from the unemployment rate measured by INSEE through the Employment Survey. The report also advises considering changes in how job seeker lists are managed when interpreting the data.

Next steps for job seekers

The situation declaration for October is open until November 15, 2026, with transfers beginning as early as November 2. Job seekers can update their information online, through the "Mon espace" app, or by phone. The next departmental statistics report, covering the fourth quarter of 2026, is expected on January 28, 2027.
