Liverpool Football Club has unveiled permanent memorials in honor of Matt Beard, the former manager of their women's team, who passed away on September 20, 2025, at the age of 47. Beard was a key figure in the development of the women's team, leading them from 2012 to 2015 and again from 2021 to 2025. During his tenure, he guided Liverpool to back-to-back Women's Super League (WSL) titles in 2013 and 2014. After a period in the second tier, he led the team back to the top flight by winning the FA Women’s Championship in 2022. His achievements earned him the WSL Manager of the Season award twice, and he was recently inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame. A private ceremony was held at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground, where a memorial garden dedicated to Beard was unveiled. A commemorative tree was also planted on 97 Avenue, outside Anfield Stadium, as a lasting tribute to his legacy. Beard's contributions to the club and the sport were remembered by players, staff, and members of his family who attended the event. In a separate initiative, Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday will be dedicated to the club’s "Together Against Suicide" campaign. This initiative, which runs from September 4 to 14, aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention and reduce the stigma associated with seeking help. The campaign encourages open conversations about mental health and the support available to those in need. Additionally, a group of Liverpool fans will participate in a fundraising walk from Melwood to the Brewdog Stadium in St Helens, which is the home of Liverpool Women’s team. The walk, taking place before Sunday’s WSL match against Tottenham, will support Andy's Man Club, a charity focused on men’s mental health and suicide prevention. Earlier this year, the Liverpool FC Foundation launched the "Kicking Off Conversations Hub," offering specialized support to fans dealing with mental health challenges.
