Game update introduces visual and performance improvements

CD Projekt Red has released version 5.0.1 of The Witcher 3 Remastered for Nintendo Switch 2, bringing a variety of improvements and fixes to the game. This update includes changes to the game itself, its interface, graphics, sound, and console-specific features. The studio has focused on enhancing performance and visual rendering while adding new graphical settings options.

Visual enhancements include bloom and lighting adjustments

Several visual adjustments have been made in the update, including improvements to bloom, which creates a luminous halo around light sources, and image color conversion, also known as tone mapping. Character lighting, ray tracing, and path tracing—techniques used to simulate light in realistic ways—have also been refined. New graphical settings options include bloom, light shafts, and depth of field, which affects the blur of distant or near elements relative to the focus point.

Performance optimizations and visual artifact fix

The update includes various optimizations aimed at improving the game's performance. A known issue with dynamic resolution, which adjusts image clarity during gameplay to maintain smoothness, has been corrected. This fix addresses visual artifacts that could appear in certain configurations, ensuring a more stable and visually consistent experience.

Gameplay fixes address several issues

Several gameplay-related issues have been resolved in this update. For example, the automatic application of oils to blades now functions correctly even if it was not activated during the current session. Fixes also address problems with boats drifting and ignoring terrain collisions, as well as adjustments to Geralt’s stamina when sprinting and dodging. Other fixes include restoring the responsiveness of Geralt’s dodge, correcting the display of synergy skill bonuses, and improving animations for ladder interactions.

Interface and audio improvements included

The game’s interface has also seen several fixes. A window announcing earned skill points could previously remain locked on the screen, but this has been corrected. On the meditation screen, blinking key indicators have been addressed, and the potion tutorial now appears after opening the consumables tab. Some misaligned progress bars have also been fixed. On the audio side, a defect where voices became weaker than other sounds after navigating the pause menu has been resolved.

Console-specific adjustments and other changes

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has received specific adjustments, including improved image clarity and resolution. A rare crash during region changes has been corrected, and cache management has been optimized to support multiplatform mods. HD Rumble feedback during ladder climbing is now felt on both Joy-Cons, and placing markers on the black bands surrounding the map is no longer possible. General changes include a privacy policy consent screen due to server-side issues and a fix for rewards not appearing in Vizima’s chest, which may lead to item duplication. Finally, Ukrainian text translation is now available in all regions.
