Olivier de Nicola, president of the Contrastes group, highlighted that Secrets de Voyages operates successfully with multiple agencies and networks, raising questions about whether this expertise could be shared with other brands within the Contrastes group. The group now includes several entities, such as Contrastes Voyages, Running, Croisières, Golf, Events, Greens du Monde, and Somerset. De Nicola explained that brands like Greens du Monde and Somerset, which focus on event management, were acquired when the group already had Contrastes Golf and Contrastes Events. Contrastes emphasizes maintaining the autonomy of each brand to preserve their unique expertise and culture, rather than merging them into a single entity. For example, Greens du Monde has a 33-year history in golf travel and has developed its own reputation and brand strength. De Nicola noted that the same strategy is being applied to Secrets de Voyages, which is a strong brand with a solid track record and expertise. The group is exploring ways to create synergies between different services but not necessarily through cost-sharing. The focus is on offering custom services and connecting different activities, as clients may have varied interests, such as luxury travel, golf, running, cruises, or corporate decision-making. This approach allows for cross-selling opportunities and helps reduce the cost of acquiring new customers. The acquisition of Secrets de Voyages opens the group to business-to-business (B2B) operations, a development the group will consider. Some activities, such as marathons, have contractual restrictions that prevent reselling, but other products, like the Trail de la Muraille de Chine, could be sold in B2B markets. The group is looking into expanding these products to international markets, although it remains a relatively small company with limited resources. Synergies with other activities, such as golf, could also be explored. Contrastes has grown significantly since 2014, expanding from six employees to 45, with a turnover of around 25 million euros. The group's strategy involves consolidating existing activities and exploring opportunities in niche markets, such as luxury travel, golf, and cruises. De Nicola mentioned that the group is not ruling out new external growth opportunities, especially in cases of business succession or economic challenges. However, the group is not actively seeking acquisitions and is proceeding at its own pace. The acquisition of Secrets de Voyages is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the group's presence in Paris, where it is already established through event management and now through Secrets de Voyages. The group's niche positioning helps it remain resilient in the face of economic and geopolitical challenges, as certain products, like marathons and golf, are less affected by inflation and geopolitical issues. De Nicola also commented on the impact of artificial intelligence on the travel industry, noting that it provides faster access to knowledge and skills, but personal experience and insight remain crucial, especially in luxury travel. The group is adapting to technological changes but continues to emphasize the importance of human experience and expertise. Recruitment is based on a passion for activities like golf, running, and event management, though attracting new talent in luxury travel remains a challenge due to the need for experience and specialized knowledge.
