French fans protest soap opera removal

Fans of The Young and the Restless in France are trying to stop the show from being removed from TF1's schedule. They are concerned that the American soap opera will be replaced by a new version of the game show Pyramid, hosted by Arthur, starting in January 2027.

Petition gains support

A petition on Change.org has collected nearly 1,300 signatures, urging TF1 to reconsider its decision. The petition argues that the show has created a special connection between generations, including grandparents, grandchildren, and long-time friends.

Emotional connections to the show

Supporters of the show have shared personal stories, such as watching the series in memory of a deceased parent or describing it as a daily pleasure. Some have also suggested that if TF1 no longer wants to air the show, it could be moved to another channel within the TF1 group, like TFX, TMC, or TF1 Séries Films.

TF1's scheduling changes

According to Le Parisien and CGTV, The Young and the Restless will be replaced in January 2027 by a new version of Pyramid. The show has aired on TF1 since August 1989 but has seen declining viewership in recent years.

Declining viewership and broader changes

As of October 23, the soap opera attracted only 340,000 viewers, compared to a million viewers for the game show Chacun son tour on France 2 at the same time. This decision is part of a larger shift in TF1's programming schedule, including the arrival of the morning show Bonjour! in 2024 and the relocation of other shows to different channels.
