"Saturday Night Live" U.K., the British adaptation of the iconic American sketch comedy show, has announced Freddie Meredith as a new castmember for its second season. Meredith, a comedian known for his work in TV series like "Such Brave Girls" and "Big Boys," joins the show after recently winning the Best Newcomer award at the Edinburgh Fringe for his solo show "Need a Light?" He will be a permanent fixture alongside the 11 original cast members who helped the show gain acclaim during its debut season. Meredith, who trained as an actor before turning to comedy, gained a following through short sketches posted online. He has cited several comedy stars, including Jamie Demetriou, Tim Key, Tina Fey, and Steve Carrell, as influences. Describing his decision to join "SNL U.K." as a "no-brainer," Meredith said the show is "the most iconic comedy show" and that it will "undoubtedly inform everything I do for the rest of my career." The second season of "SNL U.K." is set to begin on Saturday, 12 September, with guest host Jeff Goldblum and musical guest CMAT. The show had a successful debut season earlier this year, which earned praise from both the British public and the comedy industry. Last year’s episodes featured guest hosts such as Tina Fey, Riz Ahmed, and Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso. All 11 original cast members will return for the new season, which will consist of 12 episodes. The returning cast includes Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, and others. With the addition of Meredith, the show continues to build on its momentum, aiming to bring fresh talent and humor to the U.K. comedy scene.
