Service interruption on October 20

Revolut experienced a service interruption on Tuesday, October 20, affecting multiple features including card payments, transfers, and access to its application. The company acknowledged the incident on its social media platform X, stating that it was working to restore all services as quickly as possible.

Customer reports from multiple countries

The outage was reported by customers in several countries, including France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, and China. Reports indicated that users faced issues such as declined card payments at stores, inability to make transfers, and difficulties accessing the application.

High volume of outage reports

On Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages, more than 1,500 reports were recorded around 8 a.m. (Paris time). The first reports in France arrived around 9 a.m. Testimonies from users described problems with card payments, application access, and transfers.

Confusing status page updates

Revolut's official service status page initially listed all systems as operational, which caused confusion among users. However, the page was later updated to indicate that all 31 of its services were unavailable. Despite this update, the company did not provide further details on the cause of the outage or the number of affected customers.

No link to previous data incidents

The outage occurred a month after two incidents involving customer data, where Revolut confirmed that it had passed passports and selfies of customers to scammers posing as a government agency. However, no connection has been established between these incidents and the current outage.

Significant impact on French users

Revolut has 8 million customers in France, according to its own claims, and the outage could have significant implications for those who rely solely on its services for daily transactions. Users are advised to have alternative payment methods available until the service is restored.
