Honor has unveiled the Magic 9 series in China, featuring the Magic 9 Pro Max as its flagship model. This smartphone is notable for its collaboration with Arri, a well-known manufacturer of cinema equipment. The partnership goes beyond a simple logo on the camera module; the Magic 9 Pro Max films in LogC3, a color profile typically used in Arri cameras, and includes color grading tools for videographers. The phone’s design incorporates a rectangular platform on the back, inspired by the three-lens turret of the Arriflex 35 camera, a design that some might associate with the iPhone. The device includes 14 pre-installed Arri Look LUTs, which are color conversion filters used in post-production, and allows users to import custom LUTs for more personalized video editing. It can record videos using the APV codec in 10-bit 4:2:2, a professional compression format, and features a directional microphone described as "cinema quality." On the back, the smartphone has two 200-megapixel sensors. The main sensor has a 1/1.28 inch size and an f/1.57 aperture, while a periscope telephoto sensor offers a 3.5x optical zoom. Both sensors are certified for CIPA 8.0 stabilization, ensuring smoother video footage. The Magic 9 Pro Max also includes two teleconverters, the G200 and G500, with the latter potentially corresponding to a 500 mm teleconverter. The battery capacity has increased to 8,800 mAh, which is 40% more than the Magic 8 Pro. It supports wired charging at 100 watts and wireless charging at 80 watts. The phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, the latest high-end mobile processor from Qualcomm. Despite the processor's capabilities, Honor has stated that the Magic 9 Pro Max does not support 8K at 60 frames per second or 4K at 240 frames per second. The Magic 9 series also includes the Magic 9 and Magic 9 Super Edition models. The Magic 9 has a 6.37-inch display, an 8000 mAh battery, and uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The Magic 9 Super Edition has an 11,000 mAh battery, an active cooling system with a fan, and a 6.81-inch display. It features a 50-megapixel front camera and can record 4K video at 120 frames per second. Honor has not announced a specific international release date or price for the Magic 9 series, but the Magic 8 Pro was launched in China in October 2025 and tested in late January 2026. The Magic 9 Pro Max starts at 6,499 yuan (approximately 850 euros) for the 12 GB + 256 GB configuration, with higher configurations available.
