The Camargue region's unique traditions will be showcased in Nîmes during the spring of 2027, with the first edition of the Camarga fair planned for June 11, 12, and 13 at the Nîmes exhibition park. The event was officially announced by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Gard, with details shared in the "Aigoual" room of the Maison des Entreprises. Éric Giraudier, president of the CCI of the Gard, noted that no similar fair exists in the region and stressed the importance of preserving Camargue's cultural heritage. Agnès Spaeth, a CCI Gard associate member and event organizer, emphasized that the fair aims to protect these traditions without isolating them, while also inspiring younger generations to take an interest in the heritage. The Camarga fair will highlight the region's traditions, including its famous bulls, horses, and manades—groups of bulls that are a central part of local culture. The event will attract enthusiasts, the general public, families, and tourists, with activities centered around seven main themes: Horse, bull, and traditions; Gastronomy and terroir; Fashion and accessories; Art, culture, and heritage; Craftsmanship and know-how; Nature and territory; and Tourism and lifestyle. While specific activities have not yet been detailed, the fair will feature exhibitors, live demonstrations, and various interactive experiences. During the event’s presentation, several key figures were present, including Elisabeth Monteiro, a CCI elected official and technical advisor for the Camarga fair; Jacques Laures, a member of the organizing committee; and Patrick Garcia, first deputy mayor of Vestric-et-Candiac and president of the intercommunal syndicate of sites. Carole Doulaud, a member of the Conciergerie of the Arlésienne and ambassador for the first edition, stated that Provençal traditions are a living heritage passed down through generations. Bérenger Aubanel, a bull herder and captain of the Nacioun Gardiano—a group representing the Camargue's bull culture—will also act as an ambassador, helping to unite local actors around the fair’s goal of creating a major event for cultural exchange and heritage transmission. The Camarga fair is expected to become a significant gathering for those interested in the region's unique way of life, offering both educational and entertaining experiences. With its focus on tradition, culture, and community, the event aims to bring together people from all backgrounds to celebrate and preserve the Camargue's identity for future generations.
