Nantes is set to open a new 700-meter cycle path by 2026, offering cyclists a safer route across the Loire and reducing traffic on existing paths.
New cycle path in Nantes
A new cycle path in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, is set to open before the end of 2026, according to a press release from the city council announced on October 29.Secure route for cyclists
The path will provide cyclists with a secure route between the Sarrail squares in Rezé and Mangin on the island of Nantes. The two-way cycle path will stretch over 700 meters and will cross the Sèvre nantaise, the rue du Dos-d'Âne, and the Pirmil bridge to cross the Loire and connect to the Mangin area.Improved safety for cyclists
Damien Garrigue from the mobility department of Nantes Métropole stated in the press release that this will change things for cyclists, as they will no longer have to cross the Pirmil road intersections. The new cycle path aims to relieve the historical north-south cycle axis currently used by cyclists, who will be distributed on the two axes.Construction begins in autumn
Construction work began during the autumn holidays, marking the first phase of the project, which primarily aims to delimit the path and create islands. A second phase will follow in the spring, focusing on final arrangements, including a light surface layer.Part of neighborhood transformation
This new installation is part of the transformation initiated by the city of Nantes in the neighborhoods of the Sarrail square, Pirmil, and Mangin.
