A 39-year-old man was sentenced on Wednesday by the Lyon judicial court for three sexual assaults that took place in Lyon, the capital of the Gauls, on March 9, June 2, and August 9 of last year. The most recent incident occurred on the stairs of the Part-Dieu metro station in the 3rd arrondissement, where the accused filled a syringe with his semen and sprayed it onto a woman’s buttocks. This act, described as a form of sexual assault, has raised concerns about public safety and personal privacy in urban areas. Investigators identified the man after a photograph of him circulated within police services. An officer recalled having previously checked him several years earlier on public transport, where he had been carrying a syringe containing semen in his bag. The exploitation of the accused’s phone revealed two videos showing similar incidents on March 9 and June 2 at Part-Dieu. These videos provided crucial evidence for the prosecution and helped establish a pattern of behavior. During the hearing, the accused admitted to having committed "five or six" such acts in total, according to Le Progrès, and also admitted to filming the buttocks of women in the street on multiple occasions since 2021. He had previously been convicted in 2012 for a sexual assault, which indicated a prior history of such behavior. The civil party requested that the incidents be considered as sexual assaults, a qualification ultimately adopted by the court. The 39-year-old man was sentenced to one year in prison, which may be served under electronic monitoring. He will also undergo socio-judicial follow-up for three years and pay 4,000 euros to the victim as compensation for moral damages. This sentence reflects the court’s attempt to balance punishment with rehabilitation and restitution, addressing both the legal and personal impact of the crimes.
