JetBrains launches Air Governance, a centralized platform to manage AI tools, costs, and usage across teams and providers.
JetBrains releases Air Governance platform
JetBrains has made its Air Governance platform available to all client organizations. Previously known as JetBrains Central, the platform is part of the JetBrains Air product system designed for agent-based development.Platform manages AI tools and costs
Air Governance provides a centralized space to manage AI agents, models, and providers used by teams, set spending limits, and track the costs and benefits of AI usage. It works with multiple agents like Claude Agent, Codex, Gemini CLI, and Junie across various development interfaces.Free and paid packages available
Air Governance is now available to all JetBrains client organizations, with both free and paid packages to accommodate different team needs. The platform was created in response to the challenge of managing multiple AI tools from different providers.AI costs increased significantly
At JetBrains, AI-related expenses increased tenfold during the first half of 2026, requiring four days to manually compile the first multi-provider usage report. This highlighted the need for a centralized management system.Administrators manage AI usage centrally
Air Governance allows administrators to manage AI usage from a single console, supporting different providers and enabling developers to use agents and models suited to their tasks. New agents or models can be integrated into existing rules without requiring new contracts or configurations.Console offers detailed controls
In the console, administrators can set AI credit limits for individual users, teams, and service accounts, manage AI providers, configure a centralized BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) system, define approved AI agents, configure enterprise-level MCP servers, and create AI usage policies.Tracks costs and impact of AI
The platform also allows organizations to track both the costs and impact of AI usage, including AI costs per user, per agent, per model, and per provider, as well as performance indicators like the distribution of human-written versus AI-generated code.Future features include third-party support
Future plans for Air Governance include the propagation of MCP servers to third-party CLI, support for GitHub Copilot via Air Gateway, connecting to cloud agents via Air Gateway, advanced AI analytics, and the ability to manage skills between teams.Platform available through Business plan
Air Governance is now available to all organizations through the Business plan, priced at 20 USD per month for each developer with access to AI. Developers use a shared pool of AI credits purchased separately by the organization. Existing JetBrains clients can access it directly in the console with administrator access.
