New Miyazaki Collection Announced

A new collection of works by renowned Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, titled Daydream Notes, is set to be released in France on November 26, 2026, by Delcourt editions. This hardcover book will feature 136 pages of previously unpublished material, including manga, illustrations, and texts.

Content of the Collection

The collection includes short manga, illustrations, and texts that have not been published in France before. It compiles works originally published in the Japanese magazine Model Graphix, which focused on models and scale models, and includes material that has not been widely available outside Japan.

Manga Inspired by a Famous Film

One of the highlights of Daydream Notes is a manga that inspired Porco Rosso, one of Miyazaki's most admired films. The centerpiece of the collection is The Era of Seaplanes (Hikōtei Jidai), a manga originally published in three parts in Model Graphix a few years before the film's release.

Other Works in the Collection

The collection also includes Kaze Tachinu, a manga Miyazaki returned to in 2009. This work focuses on the engineer who designed the Japanese Zero fighter and was later adapted into the film The Wind Rises (2013). This manga was previously published in Model Graphix.

Themes and Future Volumes

Daydream Notes features a historical and alternate history fiction set in Europe between 1862 and 1945, with anthropomorphic characters in a world marked by technological progress and military conflict. Delcourt describes this collection as the first of four volumes, though no release dates have been set for the remaining books.
