Meta’s AI app, Muse, is showing strong early performance, according to new data from Appfigures, a market intelligence provider. In its first 12 days on the market, Muse has been downloaded more times in the U.S. and Canada than ChatGPT was in the 12 days following its debut. Appfigures also reports that Muse currently has more daily active users than ChatGPT had at a similar stage in its launch. Comparing the two apps has been challenging due to differing launch strategies. When ChatGPT launched on mobile, it was available worldwide but only on Apple’s iOS platform. In contrast, Muse is available on both iOS and Google’s Android but only in the U.S. and Canada. To make a fair comparison, Appfigures focused on iOS data from the U.S. and Canada for both apps during their first 12 days. According to this data, Muse has 1.8 million downloads compared to ChatGPT’s 1.3 million. Globally, Muse has reached 2.8 million total installs in its first 12 days. Muse’s popularity is still growing. It quickly moved up to the top spot on the U.S. App Store after its launch, surpassing ChatGPT in rankings. Appfigures’ data shows that Muse’s daily active users in the U.S. are now higher than ChatGPT’s were at the same point in its launch. On iOS alone, Muse has 359,000 daily active users, compared to ChatGPT’s 231,000 at that time. This comparison is fair, considering Muse is available on both iOS and Android, while ChatGPT was only on iOS initially. Appfigures does not have direct access to Meta’s internal data, so its figures are estimates. However, they suggest that Muse could become one of Meta’s top apps. Meta has a history of successfully promoting new apps, such as Instagram’s Threads, which now has over 500 million users. Threads benefited from heavy marketing and integration with Meta’s major apps like Instagram and Facebook. Muse is likely to get a similar push, as it can connect with both Instagram and Facebook, and it also integrates with WhatsApp. Appfigures noted that over 95% of Muse users are also Facebook users, and 63% are Instagram users, indicating strong overlap with Meta’s existing user base. Meta has not yet released public figures on Muse’s early adoption, but the data from Appfigures suggests the AI app is off to a strong start.
