Orange, a major French telecommunications company, has launched an integrated online marketplace, marking a significant new step for the operator. The platform, officially unveiled on Tuesday, September 22, offers over 8,000 product references, with plans to expand to 40,000 items by the end of the year. The marketplace invites third-party sellers based in Europe, who must be vetted by Orange, to offer their products on the company's websites. Available items range from smart home devices to reconditioned smartphones, with some products offered at up to half the price of new models.
The marketplace is organized into six main categories, including reconditioned smartphones, TVs, tablets, gaming consoles, smartwatches, and smart home products. More than 1,500 reconditioned smartphones are listed, with discounts of up to 50% compared to new versions. Laetitia Orsini-Sharps, director of consumer affairs at Orange France, explained that the marketplace aims to provide "more choices and competitive prices to improve purchasing power," leveraging the trust consumers already have in the Orange brand.
The platform includes a dedicated section for promotions and deals, featuring items such as a connected light bulb for less than 6 euros, a Marshall Monitor III headset for 199.99 euros, and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 cases with up to 20 euros in reimbursement. Each product listing displays customer reviews ranging from one to five stars, with some products receiving top ratings and others receiving lower scores.
To ensure quality and reliability, Orange has imposed strict rules on its partner sellers. Sellers must be based entirely in Europe and meet rigorous quality standards, with their performance regularly monitored. Companies such as TSG Lab and e-recycle, which specialize in reconditioned smartphones, are already participating, along with Orange itself as a direct seller for a large portion of the catalog.
Payment options on the marketplace are diverse, including immediate discounts, deferred reimbursement (up to 100 euros), payment in four installments starting from 100 euros, and financing over 24 months at zero interest for high-end products like Apple or Samsung smartwatches. These options allow consumers to manage the cost of expensive items that can run into several hundred euros, with legal notices reminding users that credit is binding and must be repaid.
The marketplace is accessible via the "Tech and accessories" section on orange.fr and sosh.fr, as well as through the Orange and moi and MySosh apps. To compete with established players like Amazon, Fnac, and Cdiscount, Orange aims to significantly expand its catalog, which is expected to grow fivefold by the end of the year. With an already operational selection of sellers, Orange appears determined to take an active role in the e-commerce market.
