RATP Regenerates Metro Line

The RATP, the public transport authority in Île-de-France, is continuing to modernize a major metro line, following earlier work on the western section from 1993 to 1998, which covered 21 kilometers, and another phase from 2015 to 2023, covering 23 kilometers. This ongoing project aims to improve infrastructure and passenger experience across the entire line.

Eastern Branch Construction Underway

The current construction focuses on the eastern branches of the line, which span 80 kilometers between Vincennes and Boissy-Saint-Léger on one side, and Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy on the other. These areas are critical for connecting major destinations, including Disneyland Paris, and are undergoing significant upgrades.

Line Closure for Track Renovations

From August 8 to August 23, the metro line was closed between Vincennes and Noisy-le-Grand-Mont-d'Est to allow for the replacement of tracks, including rails, sleepers, and ballast, as well as track equipment. This closure was necessary to ensure the safety and efficiency of the updated infrastructure.

Nation Station Renovation

The Nation station was closed from June 29 to August 30 for renovations, including waterproofing, platform upgrades, and access improvements. During this period, trains passed through the station without stopping, minimizing disruption while allowing for essential upgrades to the facility.

New Pedestrian Passage Installed

At Val-de-Fontenay station, a new underground pedestrian passage has been installed. This 17-meter-long, 11-meter-wide structure, weighing 80 tons, was placed during the weekend of August 8-9. It will help passengers move more efficiently between the RER A and E lines, and potentially future lines such as T1 and Line 1 of the metro.

Impact on Travelers

Despite the construction work, the line remains heavily used, especially during the summer months when tourists travel to destinations like Disneyland Paris. Replacement buses have been provided, though they have increased travel times for commuters and visitors alike.

Future Construction Plans

The project is expected to continue until 2030, with the next phase of construction scheduled to take place between La Varenne-Chennevières and Boissy-Saint-Léger in 2027. This ongoing work reflects the long-term commitment to upgrading and maintaining the region's public transport infrastructure.
