Leapmotor has introduced the B03X, a new electric SUV designed to offer a blend of practicality and performance. Measuring 4,270mm in length with a 2,605mm wheelbase, the B03X provides ample interior space and innovative storage solutions. It is equipped with a 53kWh battery that the company claims can provide a range of up to 237 miles on a single charge. The vehicle features a 194bhp front-mounted electric motor, 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and a blacked-out C-pillar for a sporty appearance. The provisional on-the-road price is set at £28,495, but this is reduced to £26,995 with the help of Leapmotor’s £1,500 Leap Grant. Customers can begin placing orders in October, with deliveries expected to start in December. Inside, the B03X is equipped with a 14.6-inch touchscreen featuring 2.5K resolution, alongside an 8.8-inch screen for the driver. The car supports over-the-air software updates, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, enhancing connectivity and convenience. It also includes 21 standard driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. The interior is designed with practicality in mind, offering 33 storage areas, a waterproof and washable underfloor compartment in the boot, and 405 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1,605 litres when the seats are folded down. However, the B03X is not without its shortcomings. Some drivers have reported that the steering feels overly light and lacks a sense of connection with the road. The driver assistance systems have also been criticized for being inconsistent, with frequent warning sounds that can be distracting. In testing, the Yokohama tyres on the test vehicle showed poor grip, even on dry roads in Southern Spain. Leapmotor has stated that many of these issues are expected to be resolved through software updates before the car reaches UK customers. The interior quality of the B03X is a mixed bag. While some materials and design elements are smart and well-thought-out, others, such as the metal bonnet and tailgate, are perceived as flimsy, and the parcel shelf feels cheap. The standard Currant Black interior is complemented by the option of Oat Grey at no additional cost. The car comes with a four-year/60,000-mile warranty, and the battery is separately covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. Leapmotor International, a 51/49 joint venture with Stellantis, ensures that the vehicle has access to an established sales and service network in the UK. The B03X supports fast charging with a maximum DC rate of 133kW, allowing a 30 to 80 per cent charge in just 16 minutes, and it also includes an 11kW onboard AC charger. Additionally, the car can supply up to 3.3kW at 230V for devices like laptops or portable fridges, thanks to its vehicle-to-load functionality.
