Heavyweight contender Efe Ajagba has claimed he nearly knocked out Tyson Fury during sparring sessions, adding fuel to the ongoing discussion about Fury's next fight. Fury is currently seeking a new opponent as negotiations with Anthony Joshua continue to stall. The two had previously agreed to fight this year, but a disagreement over the location has caused delays. Joshua's contract requires the fight to be held in the UK, while Fury's contract allows for more flexibility. Fury and his team have pushed for a bout on 20 November in New York City, but Joshua remains committed to a potential showdown at Wembley Stadium in London. As the situation remains unresolved, Fury has begun suggesting alternative opponents, including former rivals like Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois, Agit Kabayel, and Filip Hrgovic. Fury has sparred with Ajagba multiple times over the years, and the Nigerian boxer was recently asked about his experiences with the British fighter. "I almost knocked him out in sparring," Ajagba told FightHype. "Everyone knows that, he knows. I have video proof." Ajagba explained that he keeps the video on his phone to review his performance, not to post online. He said he would release it if Fury starts "talking trash," but since Fury hasn't done so, he has no need to share it. Ajagba, 32, has a professional record of 21-1-1 (15 KOs), with his only losses being a points loss to Frank Sanchez in 2021 and a draw with Martin Bakole last May. Since then, he has fought only once, defeating Charles Martin in February. Ajagba expressed his desire to fight top contenders, including Fury, Usyk, Kabayel, and Hrgovic. Usyk was the unified heavyweight champion until this summer, when he stepped down to prepare for a retirement fight. Kabayel became the WBC champion after Usyk's departure, while Hrgovic won the vacant IBF title in August by defeating Moses Itauma. The current heavyweight division is highly competitive, with multiple titles held by different fighters. The WBA title is held by Murat Gassiev, and Daniel Dubois recently won the WBO title by defeating Fabio Wardley in May. Dubois is set to face Wardley again in October, adding another high-profile bout to the division's already busy schedule. As Fury continues to search for an opponent, the heavyweight landscape remains dynamic, with several top fighters vying for a shot at the title.
