Woman discovers puppies in a cage

Behind a building in Athens, Texas, a woman heard small noises coming from behind a structure and followed the sound, discovering a small cage where puppies were stacked on top of each other in the sunlight, without access to food or water.

Rescuers arrive and assess the situation

She called Athens Animal Services, and two rescuers arrived urgently. They counted 16 puppies, visibly of different ages, thin and hungry.

Shelter manager shares the rescue details

According to Kansas Scriven, manager of the shelter, as reported to The Dodo, the rescuers took the puppies out one by one. Two puppies required urgent veterinary care and were taken back to the shelter.

One puppy survives against the odds

Unfortunately, one of them did not survive. The other, which the team feared they would lose, recovered unexpectedly after being fed with a syringe. Scriven stated that they could literally see it come back to life.

Puppies find new homes

The shelter then found an organization to take in the puppies, Pets Fur People, and the fifteen survivors were placed in foster homes, with the possibility of being adopted. Scriven thanked the woman for investigating rather than walking away, stating that her call saved lives.
