Employee finds abandoned puppies
In August, an employee of the Central California Irrigation District (CCID) noticed a cardboard box placed in the ground near the edge of a canal along Los Banos Creek in California. Around the box, a group of small puppies had been abandoned.Rescue organization responds
The employee immediately informed Kate's Furreka Rescue (KFR), which sent a team to the location. The rescuers discovered 11 puppies, many of whom were still inside the cardboard box.Puppies in need of care
A member of KFR told The Dodo that the puppies were hot, hungry, and thirsty. The puppies were placed in safety and taken to a shelter, where they received care and regular meals before being placed with foster families.Puppies receive creative names
The puppies were given names that evoke water: River, Brooks, Dewdrop, Misty, Bay, Kai, Hudson, Wells, Banks, Nile, and Hydro. According to the organization, the puppies are now doing well, playing, socializing, and learning that they are loved.Volunteers praise the puppies' behavior
The organization noted that the puppies are so cuddly that volunteers can carry them like babies. Soon, the puppies will be spayed or neutered, a step before the next stage of the adoption process.Rescuers express joy at the recovery
Watching them recover, the rescuers cannot help but smile.
