Approximately 930 kilograms of cocaine were seized in a major drug trafficking case in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of southern France. The incident occurred during the night of Friday to Saturday when a convoy of three vehicles, believed to have originated from Spain, was intercepted by French gendarmes. The operation took place near the border between France and Spain, a common route for drug smuggling. During the confrontation, the driver of one of the vehicles deliberately rammed a gendarmerie vehicle, causing two military personnel to suffer minor injuries. Following the collision, a search operation was conducted, leading to the arrest of a man in his twenties. He is believed to be from the Paris region. According to the prosecutor of Perpignan, initial investigations have uncovered evidence of an "international-scale criminal organization" involved in the drug trafficking. The case has now been transferred to the National Anticriminality Prosecution Office (Pnaco), which handles serious criminal cases, particularly those with cross-border implications. Pnaco works closely with national and international law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute organized crime. This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by French authorities to combat drug trafficking and related criminal activities. The incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in intercepting large-scale drug operations that often span multiple countries. With the involvement of an international criminal network, the case may lead to further investigations and potential arrests in other regions or countries. Authorities are likely to continue monitoring the situation closely as the investigation progresses.
