Penny Lancaster has shared an update on her husband, Sir Rod Stewart, following a recent heart procedure that has forced the cancellation of his 2026 U.S. tour. The 81-year-old singer had been in the midst of his final world tour when he underwent a coronary stent procedure, which is a common treatment for narrowed arteries in the heart. He now needs four weeks of recovery time, and doctors have advised that he should avoid the physically demanding nature of live performances during this period. Lancaster told doctors that her husband’s concerts are highly intense, involving running around for nearly two hours, frequent costume changes, and constant movement—comparable to the energy levels of a boxer or a horse. While Stewart is now able to manage his daily activities, the medical team has recommended that he not perform until he is fully recovered. The cancellation includes six planned shows at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, a venue that has hosted many of Stewart’s performances over the years. Fans have been supportive, sending messages of encouragement to the singer, who expressed his desire to return to the stage and see his audience again. Doctors have also given strict guidelines on the amount of physical activity he can safely engage in at home. Stewart has faced a series of health challenges this year, including a sinus infection in May that led to the cancellation of shows in Nevada. Later, he had to cancel a performance in San Diego due to a respiratory infection that caused laryngitis. Despite these issues, he attended a FIFA World Cup match in Boston with his two sons, though he later admitted it was not a wise decision and wanted to avoid letting his sons down. During a performance in Utah, Stewart nearly fainted and used an oxygen tank, asking the audience for permission to sit for the rest of the show. After the heart procedure, he reported feeling better and thanked the medical team for their care. Although the "One Last Time" tour was meant to be his farewell, Stewart had previously expressed a desire to continue performing, stating he felt "Forever Young" and wanted to move to smaller-scale shows in the future. He mentioned a plan to embark on a "Great American Songbook, Swing Fever" tour with more intimate venues. Lancaster, who married Stewart in 2007, shared these updates while supporting the Street Child charity’s Back To School campaign, which encourages the public to pledge £4 per month to help fund a child’s education for an entire year.
