Johnny Fisher is set to return to the Copper Box Arena in a 10-round bout against Belgium's Michael Pirotton. This fight marks Fisher's promotional debut with Dana White's Zuffa Boxing, a company known for its connection to the UFC. Fisher, 27, is a British heavyweight boxer who suffered his first professional loss last year when he was stopped by Dave Allen in the fifth round. The defeat raised questions about his status in the heavyweight division, but Fisher insists it doesn’t define his career, pointing to other fighters who have faced setbacks and made comebacks. Fisher's journey to the top has been anything but traditional. He has only a few amateur bouts under his belt and a background in university rugby. His popularity has been boosted by his father, "Big John," and their shared Chinese takeaway reviews and Essex-style humor, which have created a loyal fanbase known as the Bosh Army. Fisher started his professional career strongly, winning his first 13 fights, but his match with Allen in December 2024 was controversial, with a split-decision victory that highlighted some of his weaknesses. Since that loss, Fisher's performance against Ivan Balaz was not convincing, leading to increased scrutiny of his boxing abilities. Fisher denies being an "influencer boxer," a term used for athletes like Jake Paul and Tommy Fury, who have large social media followings but no formal boxing experience. Fisher says his popularity comes from his and his father's shared platform, not from being an influencer. After five years with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom, Fisher signed with Zuffa Boxing in July, lured by a strong financial offer. His first meeting with Dana White took place over a Chinese meal with his father, and he has also changed his training setup, moving away from long-time trainer Mark Tibbs to work with Tony Sims, incorporating more rigorous preparation like 160 rounds of sparring, altitude training, and early morning hill sprints. Fisher remains humble about his current standing, saying he is not among the top heavyweights like Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua, or Tyson Fury. He is looking to face domestic opponents such as Frazer Clarke and Solomon Dacres and aims to fight for the British title within 12 to 18 months. Current champion Richard Riakporhe has expressed interest in facing Fisher if he defeats Pirotton. For now, Fisher is focused on winning his next fight, believing that is the only thing that matters. He wants to enjoy the journey and compete at a high level, regardless of where it takes him.
