Study tests hair styling devices

A comparative study conducted in October 2026 by Marie Ciolfi tested 11 hair styling devices, including flat irons, blow dryers, curling irons, and next-generation multi-stylers. The goal was to help consumers choose the best tool for managing their hair without causing damage.

Heat damage is a major concern

Experts highlighted that heating devices are often the first cause of hair damage, as exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to dryness, thinning, and breakage. Controlled heat, ideally kept below 185°C, remains essential for preserving hair health.

Hair types require specific tools

The study emphasized that each hair type—fine, thick, curly, frizzy, or straight—requires specific responses. For example, ceramic plate flat irons or steam technology were noted for their effectiveness in achieving flawless smoothing and controlling frizz.

Versatile multi-stylers gain attention

The study also noted the emergence of versatile multi-stylers, which are redefining beauty routines by combining drying and styling functions. These devices use aerodynamics, such as the Coanda effect, and perfectly controlled airflows.

Multi-stylers offer flexibility

These multi-stylers can transform at will thanks to multiple interchangeable nozzles, including curling rollers, hard smoothing brushes, or volumizing round heads. They are described as Swiss army knives of electric beauty, allowing infinite variations in hairstyles based on a single and same base motor.
