In France, Decathlon is a key player in the electric bicycle market, offering a wide range of models that cater to various needs and budgets. Among its offerings is the Elops LD 500 E, an older model that remains popular due to its generous features, durability, and strong performance. Normally priced at 1,499 euros, the Elops LD 500 E is currently available for 1,199 euros on Decathlon’s website—a significant discount. If this offer is no longer available, users can check an automatically updating table for other promotions related to this model. The Elops LD 500 E showcases Decathlon’s shift toward more modern designs. The bike has a clean, attractive look, with an open frame that’s easier to mount and a fully aluminum frame. However, it’s quite heavy, weighing 23 kg. Despite this, the model is well-equipped, featuring a protective fender, a rack that can hold up to 27 kg, and a stable aluminum kickstand. The handlebar includes a basic LCD screen that displays essential information and a USB port for charging a smartphone on the go. In terms of performance, the Elops LD 500 E is powered by a 250 W motor capable of delivering 45 Nm of torque—uncommon for its price range. It has an eight-speed transmission and reliable brakes, making it both agile and dynamic. However, its acceleration is quite strong, which may take some time to get used to. The bike’s 504 Wh battery provides a range of up to 50 km in the most powerful assistance mode (mode 3), 80 km in mode 2, and 115 km in mode 1. These distances can vary based on the rider’s weight, terrain, and tire pressure. The battery can be easily transported with an integrated handle, though it takes about seven hours to fully charge, making overnight charging advisable. Overall, the Elops LD 500 E is a durable and versatile electric bicycle that performs well in urban environments. While it has a few drawbacks, such as its weight and long charging time, its strong motor, reliable components, and good value for money make it a solid choice for daily commuters.
