Extension of water restrictions

Water usage restrictions in Ille-et-Vilaine have been extended until November 30, 2026, according to a prefectural decree signed on October 20. The measure, initially implemented on August 14 and set to expire on October 31, was extended due to insufficient recharge of aquifers and continued pressure on dam reserves following limited rainfall in August, September, and early October.

Rules for water use

Restrictions apply to withdrawals from natural environments and certain uses of distributed water, with modalities varying by activity and water resource. In Rennes, watering restrictions for lawns and shrubs remain in effect, especially between 8 am and 8 pm, along with prohibitions on filling private pools with more than 1 cubic meter and restrictions on vehicle washing or surface cleaning.

Special provisions for All Saints' Day

For All Saints' Day, watering plants and flowers placed on funerary monuments is allowed until November 2, but only using collected rainwater or sources classified as "others" under the departmental framework. Tap water cannot be used for this purpose. Cleaning of graves remains prohibited, as noted by the commune of Val d'Anast.

Exceptions and compliance

A second adjustment allows the removal of offensive, racist, xenophobic, or anti-religious graffiti using drinking water or water from aquatic environments, while preferring alternative resources compatible with health requirements. This exception does not affect other surface cleaning restrictions. The public website VigiEau allows users to check applicable restrictions based on address and intended use.

Enforcement and flexibility

State services can inspect compliance, and violations may result in a fifth-class fine. The prefecture may adjust restrictions until November 30 based on the evolution of water resources.
