GAC establishes French subsidiary

GAC, a Chinese automaker, has set up its French headquarters near Paris and officially launched its subsidiary during the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The subsidiary began operations on September 21, marking GAC's first distribution presence in Europe and highlighting the company's focus on the French market.

Location chosen for commercial activities

The French subsidiary is based in Boulogne-Billancourt, in the Hauts-de-Seine department, a location that allows for centralized commercial operations near Paris. However, the company has not yet announced plans for dealerships across the country.

Electric models for the French market

For its entry into France, GAC is focusing on its Aion brand, offering two electric vehicles: the Aion UT, a 4.27-meter compact car, and the Aion V, a 4.60-meter family SUV. These models have ranges of 430 and 510 kilometers respectively, targeting different segments of the market.

Hybrid options to attract broader audience

In addition to fully electric models, GAC plans to introduce hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains to appeal to drivers who may not be ready to switch to all-electric vehicles. This approach aims to broaden the company's appeal in the French market.

European production to aid supply

GAC's two initial European models are assembled in Austria by Magna Steyr, a production strategy that can help supply the market more efficiently and reduce logistical challenges. However, this does not guarantee commercial success in a competitive market.

GAC's expansion goals in France

GAC has set ambitious targets, aiming to establish 50 sales points in France by the end of 2026 and expand to 200 by 2030. The company also aims for over 40,000 annual vehicle registrations, or about 3% of the French market, by launching 12 electric and hybrid models by the end of the decade.

Strategic approach to dealership network

To achieve its goals, GAC is seeking multi-brand distributors to reduce the financial burden of opening dealerships and to rapidly expand its market presence without building an entirely new network from scratch.
