Arte, a public television channel based in France and Germany, has unveiled its upcoming programming schedule, featuring a mix of series and documentaries that explore historical events, technology, and contemporary social issues. The new season will kick off in mid-September with the return of Camarades, a series that delves into the creation of a free university in the Vincennes forest after the social upheavals of May 1968 in France. This series reflects on the era’s radical ideas and the challenges of building alternative educational models outside traditional institutions. In November, Arte will air Eldorado, a drama starring Jérémie Renier and Karim Leklou. The series centers on aircraft sniffers, a 1970s technology designed to detect oil from the air. However, it later emerged that the technology was a fraud orchestrated for Elf Aquitaine, a major French oil company. This story raises questions about corporate deception and the intersection of science and industry. Another notable series coming in October is Anatomía de un instante, a Spanish production that examines the 1981 coup attempt by military officers who sought to restore the authoritarian regime of Francisco Franco. The series features Alvaro Morte, best known for his role in La casa de papel, as Adolfo Suárez, a key political figure during Spain’s transition to democracy. This series offers a historical perspective on a pivotal moment in European politics. Looking ahead, Arte has scheduled Beforeigners, a fantasy series set in Norway that imagines the arrival of historical figures from the past, including Vikings. In 2027, the channel plans to debut Paradoxes, a series that will use generative artificial intelligence to blend science fiction and comedy. The show will explore mental health themes by visualizing characters’ inner struggles in a surreal forest setting. In addition to its series, Arte will air documentaries such as L'Iran raconté par ses femmes, which gives voice to Iranian women, and United States of Mafia, which investigates the political influence of organized crime in the United States. The channel will also launch two new versions of its geopolitical magazine Le dessous des cartes: Le dessous des sciences will focus on societal issues related to science, and Le dessous des réseaux will examine how external forces influence social media strategies. Arte will continue to showcase a variety of German, Franco-Belgian, and Italian productions across its television and streaming platforms.
