Jaime Winstone has shared that a comment from Taylor Swift about her dancing at a party was a key moment that convinced her to join the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. The British actress is one of 15 celebrities participating in this year’s show, which also features ex-Love Island contestant Dani Dyer, former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips, and EastEnders star Lacey Turner. Speaking ahead of the show’s launch on Saturday, 19 September, Winstone said she received two "clear signs" that she should take part, one of which was a personal message from Swift. Winstone described Madonna’s new album and its track "Danceteria"—which includes the lyrics "everybody get up and dance"—as a sign from the pop icon, whom she admires greatly. The other sign came when she attended a birthday party for her friend Poppy Delevingne, the older sister of model Cara Delevingne, in May. At the event, Taylor Swift was in attendance and complimented Winstone on her dancing. The party, held in London, was a high-profile affair with guests including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, actress Lily James, and director Baz Luhrmann. This year’s Strictly Come Dancing will air on BBC One later this month, marking the first series in 11 years without longtime presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. The pair stepped down after the previous series and have been replaced by Emma Willis, a former host of Big Brother, comedian Josh Widdicombe, and professional dancer Johannes Radebe. The professional dance partners have also seen changes, with five dancers, including fan favorites Karen Hauer and Gorka Marquez, leaving the show. They have been replaced by five new professionals. The show will return to BBC One and the iPlayer on Saturday, 19 September, with Winstone set to make her debut on the launch episode. The series is expected to draw a large audience as it continues to be one of the most-watched television programs in the UK.
