CD Projekt RED, the Polish video game developer known for creating the The Witcher series, has not ruled out the possibility of remaking The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, according to Adam Badowski, one of the company’s co-CEOs. Badowski made these comments during the International Comic Book and Video Game Festival in Poland on September 19 and 20, 2026. He mentioned that the idea is being considered, and Jakub Rokosz, who is overseeing the remake of The Witcher 1 at Fool’s Theory, has shown particular interest in such a project. Recently, a remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released, delighting fans around the world. The success of this remaster has raised excitement among fans for upcoming projects, including Songs of the Past, scheduled for release in early 2027, and potential future entries in the The Witcher franchise. These could include The Witcher 4 or a remake of The Witcher 1, which may leave room for a remake of The Witcher 2 as well. However, there is no official confirmation that a remake of The Witcher 2 will move forward. Development of the The Witcher 1 remake has slowed as Fool’s Theory focuses on completing Songs of the Past. Whether the The Witcher 2 remake will happen depends on how well the The Witcher 1 remake is received and broader industry trends. CD Projekt RED is not the first studio to consider remakes as a way to keep their franchises alive. Capcom, the developer behind the Resident Evil series, has long alternated between remaking older games and creating new entries. Other franchises, such as Silent Hill and Tomb Raider, have also followed a similar pattern of revisiting past games while introducing new content. In the near future, The Witcher fans can look forward to several new releases. After the planned release of The Witcher 4 in 2028, the studio aims to create a new trilogy within six years to avoid the long gap between The Witcher 3 (2015) and the next entry. The upcoming remaster and Songs of the Past show that fans will not be left without content during this time.
