CD Projekt Red, the Polish video game developer known for its The Witcher series, has announced that its upcoming expansion, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, will focus on Dandelion, a character who played a supporting role in the original game. Jakub Rokosz, CEO of Fool’s Theory and director of the expansion, explained that the team felt Dandelion’s story had a “missing chapter” and that the expansion will give him the “proper spotlight” he deserves. Dandelion is often seen as a humorous bard in the game, but Rokosz emphasized that he is a complex character with depth and intelligence. The expansion will follow Dandelion during Geralt’s final journey, taking players to Letten, the bard’s homeland, where they will uncover a supernatural mystery. Rokosz noted that Dandelion was once a professor at Oxenfurt Academy, a fictional university in the Witcher universe, and that the expansion will explore his background, his poetry, and the world he comes from. Senior quest designer Despoina Anetaki added that the team felt the original The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt story needed to be completed, and that the timing of the expansion’s release—11 years after the original game—was not a concern as long as the narrative was fully realized. To ensure the expansion would resonate with fans and the development team alike, the creators revisited the original Witcher novels, which provide the foundational lore for the games. While no release date has been set for Songs of the Past, it is expected to launch in 2027. In the meantime, fans can look forward to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, which will be available on September 29. CD Projekt Red did not confirm whether Songs of the Past will have any direct connection to The Witcher 4, the next installment in the series.
